Lior SamfiruLior is senior legal counsel to The Institute and heads its Human Resource Legal Alliance department. Lior is also a co-founding member of Samfiru Tumarkin LLP and heads the firm's Labour and Employment Law practice group.

Lior has established a reputation as a leading labour and employment lawyer in Ontario. He is respected by his colleagues and clients for his straightforward, practical "no nonsense" approach to advocating on behalf of management interests. By providing advice that is clear, understandable, persuasive, and by advocating positions that are both strategic and defensible, Lior assists management clients in navigating with ease through the complex maze of Ontario labour and employment law.

Lior acts as an advisor to management with respect to all workplace matters, including employee terminations (union and non-union), performance management and disciplinary issues, employment contracts, human rights compliance, union grievance handling and arbitration and collective bargaining. Lior has an established track record of successfully defending against wrongful dismissal and other legal claims, and regularly represents the interests of employers before Ontario courts and administrative tribunals, including the Ontario Labour Relations Board and Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.

Lior has written and lectured extensively on a variety of employment and labour law issues. He has been quoted in all major Ontario newspapers and his input has been sought on CBC Radio, CTV, CP24 and Rogers Television. Lior has also been a regular columnist in publications throughout the Greater Toronto Area where he has written about a range of labour and employment law issues. Lior is also regularly involved in training managers and supervisors and speaking to H.R. professionals with regard to employment legislation, managing the workforce and collective agreement administration.
