Our History :

1943 - - In 1943, the Central Ontario Industrial Relations Institute ("The Institute") was founded as an employers' association by a group of six corporations as a means of providing a centralized and accessible source of labour and employment law expertise for employers. The Institute was the first organization in Canada - and perhaps North America - to provide legal and consulting services to management in the field of labour relations, i.e., union-management relations. It was also the first organization to begin compiling and publishing large-scale wage and salary compensation and benefits surveys.

1965 - Among the other notable accomplishments during The Institute's 58 year history was the establishment, in 1965, of the Labour Arbitration Cases ("L.A.C.") reporting series, still the premiere and most authoritative source for labour arbitration case law in Canada (The Institute sold the publishing rights to Canada Law Book, the company that publishes the LACs today).
Present - The Institute continues to provide on-going services to its membership as a leader in all aspects of labour relations
